Magic Translate vs. Crowdin

Crowdin is a localization management platform. Your team, professional translators or a community of volunteers translate your texts there, and Crowdin syncs the translation files with your repository. Magic Translate is a developer tool that translates the text in your components directly, without files or a separate platform.

How the work differs

With a localization platform like Crowdin, every new text goes through a workflow. You add a key and its source text in your code. Crowdin picks up the change, the text is translated and reviewed, and the translated files come back to your repository, often as a pull request.

With Magic Translate, you write the text and release your app:

import { T } from '@magic-translate/react';
const Banner = () => <T>Free shipping on all orders this week</T>;

The text is translated into the visitor's language the first time it is shown, and the translation is cached.

When to choose Magic Translate

  • You are a developer or a small team without translators.
  • You want your app in many languages today, not after a translation project.
  • You don't want to manage keys, files and a separate platform.

When to choose Crowdin

  • You work with professional translators and need reviews and approvals.
  • Your open-source project has a community that translates it.
  • You translate more than a web app, such as mobile apps, documentation and help articles, in one place.
