Magic Translate vs. Weglot
Weglot is a website translation service. You add it to your site with a script or a plugin for platforms like WordPress and Shopify, and it translates the whole site and serves the translated pages. Magic Translate also translates your site with AI and needs no translation files, but it is built for developers: you choose exactly which text is translated, right in your code.
At a glance
| Magic Translate | Weglot | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Client libraries for React, Next.js, Angular, Vue and plain JavaScript, with a translation API | A translation service for whole websites |
| Setup | A component, or one script tag | A script, or a plugin for your website platform |
| What gets translated | The text you mark, such as <t>Hello</t> | All text on the site, unless you exclude it |
| Translations | AI translation, created automatically | Machine translation, which you can edit or have translated by people |
| Editing translations | No editor, the text in your code is the source | A dashboard and a visual editor |
| Search engines | Translated HTML from your own server, with React SSR, Next.js or prerendered Angular apps | Translated pages served on subdomains or subdirectories |
| Price | Free plan, then monthly plans based on translated characters | Plans based on the number of words and languages |
How the setup differs
With Weglot, you add their script or plugin and choose your languages in their dashboard. Weglot finds the text on your pages and translates it.
With Magic Translate, you mark the text to translate in your code. On any website, that is one script tag:
<scriptsrc="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@magic-translate/js@1/dist/magic-translate.min.js"data-api-key="YOUR_API_KEY"data-language="de"defer></script><h1><t>Welcome to our shop</t></h1><input placeholder="Search products" data-t-attrs="placeholder" />
In React, Next.js, Angular and Vue, you use the components and functions of the client libraries instead, so translations work with your framework's rendering.
